The Hualien County Government, in collaboration with the Chinese Taipei Dragon Boat Association, submitted an official bid proposal to the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) to host the 15th IDBF Club Crew World Championships 2026.

During the bidding meeting held in Pattaya, Thailand, Hualien County, Chinese Taipei, was awarded the hosting rights for the 15th IDBF Club Crew World Championships 2026 by a vote of 24 to 19, with strong support from IDBF member countries worldwide.

At the 14th IDBF Club Crew World Championships 2024 held in Ravenna, Italy, a joint delegation from the Hualien County Government and the Chinese Taipei Dragon Boat Association completed the official flag handover ceremony, formally announcing that Hualien County, Chinese Taipei, would host the 15th IDBF Club Crew World Championships 2026.

A joint delegation from the Hualien County Government and the Chinese Taipei Dragon Boat Association traveled to Benburg, Germany, in July 2025 to attend the 2025 IDBF World Dragon Boat Racing Championships. During the event, the delegation promoted Hualien as the host city of 15th IDBF Club Crew World Championships 2026 and participated in the IDBF Annual Congress, reporting on the overall progress of event preparations to attending representatives.

The Hualien County Government, the Chinese Taipei Dragon Boat Association, and the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) jointly held the Contract Signing Press Conference and Executive Committee Plaque Unveiling Ceremony for the 2026 15th IDBF Club Crew World Championships, formally signing the Letter of Intent and unveiling the Event Executive Committee.

The President and Secretary General of the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) conducted an on-site inspection of the competition venue at Liyu Lake Scenic Area, Hualien County, designated as the official race site for the 2026 15th IDBF Club Crew World Championships.
